Shelby Ferguson Obituary

1937- 2020
GASTONIA- Shelby Sparrow Ferguson, 83, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020 at Brookdale – Robinwood.
She was born in Gaston County on October 11, 1937 to the late Frank and Lois Hallman Sparrow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Keener.
Shelby was a faithful member of West Avenue Presbyterian for many years where she was an active choir member and served on various committees. She was a member of Green Acres Garden Club and Piedmont Day Lily Club. She loved working in her flower and vegetable garden. Shelby enjoyed decorating wedding cakes and baking for her family and friends. She was an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Her loving spirit and contagious smile will be greatly missed by all who loved her!
Left to cherish her memories include her loving husband of 61 years, Jim Ferguson; daughter, Sandra Broome; son, Mike Ferguson and wife Melonie; grandchildren, Luke Ferguson (Becca); Amber Ferguson, Chandler Broome and Grayson Broome; sister, Brenda Mattox; brothers, Bill Sparrow (Daphine); Jerry Sparrow; David Sparrow (Brenda) and Harry Sparrow (Linda); numerous nieces and nephews; special friends from West Avenue Presbyterian Church who were like extended family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held outside 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 26th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC with Reverend David Lytle officiating. Mask and social distancing measures are required; please feel free to bring a chair if you feel you are not able to stand as loved ones gather to celebrate Shelby's life. Interment will be private. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, if you would like to send a card or phone call to the family will be appreciated.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Gaston Hospice and to the staff and caregivers of Brookdale-Robinwood for their kindness and compassion given to Shelby and Jim.
