Gastonia – Thomas "Tommy" Washington Blalock, 78, went to be with the Lord peacefully on October 24, 2016 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Newland, NC on October 22, 1938 to the late Samuel and Helen Hartley Blalock.

Family and friends were Tommy's passion and delight. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Tommy loved playing golf, sports and singing. He was referred to by many by the nickname "Rughead". A storied sales professional in the automobile industry; Tommy was loved for his funny and friendly nature; he never met a stranger! He will invariably be remembered for his limitless capacity for friendship and the smile he always greeted you with!

Tommy is survived by his loving family; his life partner, Glenda Bradshaw Whitaker; sons, Tim Blalock and wife Pam; Mike Blalock and wife Robin; daughters, Debbie Eaddy and husband Hunter; Lisa Huskins and husband Chad; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, brothers, Gordon and Bill Blalock; sisters, Nora Kelly and Karen Ann Lowrance; special uncle, Tommy Hartley

Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. prior to the service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 27th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dickie Spargo officiating.
