It makes me so sad to hear of Gene's passing. It seems like more of us are passing every day!
Praying for peace and comfort for his family.

Hi, Gene (hygiene?), I see you have a birthday coming up tomorrow. Great. Keep on. The last reunion seems like yesterday, yet so many of our friends have passed on since. Anyway, I hope you are doing well. I am thinking about retiring at the end of the year - but then what would I do? I probably will continue publishing books - something I really like to do and does bring in a dollar or two - but the other activities are beginning to make the work days too long. If I make it to the end of the year, I will be 76. My grandfather Jordan, also a publisher, kept on working until age 80. I have a couple of first cousins - already there and they don't seem to be slowing down much, either. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that my remembrances of Ashley High School - and our fun times together never fade away. I also have fond remembrances of your mom and our Spanish classes. She did so well in teaching us that when I arrived as a freshman at Duke, my placement exam in Spanish put me in Junior year Spanish. I'll never forget on our final exam that we had to write an essay totally in Spanish. Your mom didn't make a mark on my paper, but gave me a 99. When I asked her why I didn't get a 100, she said: "Nobody is perfect." Best wishes to you in the future, David
