In Memory

Erskine Thomas Summey Jr.

Mr. Erskine Thomas Summey, Jr., 74, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. He was surrounded in love by his wife, children, and grandboys.

Born July 2, 1939 in Gastonia, Erskine was a son of Elizabeth Lutz Summey and the late Erskine Thomas Summey Sr.

Erskine was a graduate of Kings College and UNC Chapel Hill's executive program. He was an accountant for General Motors, AB Carter, Inc., the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and was the founder and owner of Summey Business Services. He was a lifelong member of East Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member for many years. He was a member of Civitan International and the Gaston Chamber of Commerce. Erskine was an avid golfer and loved many types of music.

Erskine was a Christian gentleman who walked faithfully with Jesus, living life to the fullest. He shared his love of Christ not only with his words, but with how he lived daily. He was a devoted family man who was happiest with his house full of grandboys, his daughters, sons-in-law and, of course, his wife. His family will miss his friendly smile, contagious laugh and sense of humor.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judy Wyatt Summey of Gastonia; daughters "his girls," Stephanie Bowman and husband Kevin of Belmont, Jill Warren and husband John of Gastonia; four grandsons "PawPaw's boys," Bryant, Benjamin and William Bowman and Andrew Warren; sisters, Rebecca Babington and husband Jon of Belmont; Drucilla Harris and husband Jim; brother, Loyd Summey and wife Kathie, all of Gastonia. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service to honor him will be held 1p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at East Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Parker and Dr. Robert Winecoff officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary until 4 pm. A private committal service will be held for the family at Evergreen - A Quiet Place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Baptist Church, 114 N. Church St., Gastonia, NC 28054.
