Jerry Neil Scruggs, Sr., 83, of Gastonia passed away December 22, 2021 at his residence. Jerry was born May 17, 1938 in Gaston County, NC a son of the late William Curtis Scruggs and Iva Price Scruggs.

Jerry worked as a Customer Service Manager for John Deere for 38 years before retiring. He was a life-long member of Flint Groves Baptist Church, where he worked as a Sunday School Treasurer, a deacon, a softball coach and he assisted with other church sports programs. Jerry enjoyed all kinds of sports including fresh water and deep sea fishing, football and golf, but his favorite sport was bowling. Jerry also enjoyed growing summer vegetable gardens and working in the yard. He was most notably an excellent provider for his family and a loving dependable father grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jerry's survivors include his wife, Dolly Crary Scruggs; son, Jerry Scruggs, Jr., daughters, Cheri Southers and Melodi Daniels (Derek); sister, Jane Gordon (Alan); grandchildren, Lindsay Southers (Jeff Joyner), Lauren Blythe (Will), and Kaelee Ashton and three great-grandchildren, Grace Scruggs, Charlotte Honeycutt and Jase Joyner.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Todd Scruggs and granddaughter, Lauren Scruggs Honeycutt.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Gaston Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Bowers officiating.
